13 Things About Me: Week 2

  1. I have four piercings in my right ear and one in my left
  2. I learned to knit with chop-sticks... I keep forgetting to get some needles at the craft store.
  3. I really love penguins. When I was 3 I was determined to have one as a pet one day...
  4. I also wanted a turtle at age 3. My parents dissuaded me from this, and gave me a fish tank for my fourth birthday.
  5. I don't like watching TV.
  6. I seriously love photography. One time we went to this wooded park with nature trails and I filled our digital camera up with photos, over one hundred and fifty. I then had to delete a lot of them to make room for more. I did his at the beach once as well. : )
  7. I can not work without music. I always have something in my CD player whether I'm working on a project or cleaning the house. It goes the other way as well. I can't just sit back and listen to music, I have to have some sort of hand-work to accompany it so I don't feel like I'm being lazy... crochet, knitting, bead-work, writing, sketching, cutting (clip-art), etc.
  8. I'm not really a big computer person, but I love HTML. It fascinates me and I play with it a lot.
  9. I think Douglas Adams was brilliant.
  10. Dr. Seuss and Lewis Carroll seriously drive me nuts. I never read Alice in Wonderland all the way through, and I do not like green eggs and ham.
  11. I can't stand using plastic in my art. Not even in jewelry... I don't wear it very often either.
  12. I don't like cocoa puffs. I think they're disgusting. Though the chocolate pebbles are okay.
  13. I think fat-free milk makes no sense. It is little more than flavourless, slightly-clouded water.

Quotes

Some of my Shakespeare favourites:

How poor are they who have not patience! What wound did ever heal but by degrees.

~William Shakespeare

I pray thee cease thy counsel, which falls into mine ears as profitless as water in a sieve.

~William Shakespeare

I wish you well and so I take my leave,
I Pray you know me when we meet again.

~William Shakespeare

In a false quarrel there is no true valour.

~William Shakespeare

Praising what is lost makes the remembrance dear.

Another Dumb Conversation...

I'm writing a sort of a paper on grasses. I keep going round and round in my head. I can remember Carnivore is a meat eater, and Omnivore eats plants and meats... but which is the one that eats just plants???

Me: *repeats above question aloud*
Sister: You mean an Herbivore?
Me: Yes, that's it! Thank you! All I could think of was 'vegetarian'.

Cleaning...

We were cleaning up the folding table where we were about to serve food, conversation as follows:

Me: Here, I have a infectious wipe.
Sister: ...
Me: ...
Sister: And infectious wipe?
Me: I meant a disinfectant wipe.

Quote from Mark Twain

I believe this was prophetic of what Text and Instant Messaging was going to do to our society's literacy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For example, in Year 1 that useless letter "c" would be dropped to be replased either by "k" or "s", and likewise "x" would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which "c" would be retained would be the "ch" formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might reform "w" spelling, so that "which" and "one" would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish "y" replasing it with "i" and Iear 4 might fiks the "g/j" anomali wonse and for all.
Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants. Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez "c", "y" and "x" -- bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez -- tu riplais "ch", "sh", and "th" rispektivli.
Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spikingwerld.
No Interesting Blog Fodder : /
13 Things About Me
  1. When I was 8-years-old, I had these two skeleton paper dolls I made named "Phillip" and "Phillippa" . When my older sister made me mad I'd tell her I was never speaking to her again, then would hold long dramatic conversations with Phillip and Phillippa.
  2. I keep getting "herbivore" and "vegetarian" mixed up.
  3. I have a mirror paranoia. Whenever we go out I avoid public restrooms and dressing rooms because I'm convinced they're two-way.
  4. Black labradors make me nervous. I have this recurring dream of being chased down the street by an abnormally large black lab, about twice the size he should be.
  5. I really like dried squid and seaweed rice crackers.
  6. I don't like eating in public.
  7. I *love* people-watching. Sometimes I'll accidentally comment aloud on someone once they're out of earshot and my companions will look at me like I'm nuts, then I'll realize they weren't paying attention. This is one thing I love about my older sister: she's great at people-watching. We spend an inordinate amount of time muttering back and forth in undertones when we go out together.
  8. I don't like standing near anyone taller than me unless they're close friends/relatives. How's that for irrational?
  9. I don't like bullies. Especially the ones who pick on those weaker than themselves. It makes me want to scream...
  10. I don't like pink.
  11. I have a soda can collection.
  12. I talk to my cat.
  13. I don't like having my picture taken.
So, do you want to hear about...
...The super cool deal we got on Pirates of the Caribbean "At World's End"?
So, we went to the grocery store just outside our neighbourhood yesterday evening to pick up a few things for dinner. They had a stand set up at the entrance with the DVDs, and when the employee standing next to it spotted us debating whether to purchase a copy she told us that if we bought it there we would get a package deal... free stuff to go with the movie.
First item, totally relevant. Everybody likes a drink while they watch their movie.
Second item, I'm not a big fan of it myself, but I know a lot of people associate movies with popcorn, so this is do-able.
And then there's the third item:
What's with that?
Thanks everyone for voting, and look out for new polls coming in!
Pop-Tart Observations.
As if the excessive quantity of sugar and carbs in pop-tarts wasn't bad enough, they've now come up with this:
Limited edition pop tarts, each having its own Christmas/Winter themed image. It looks innocent enough from the outside of the box, but when I opened the package, I could hardly believe the horror my eyes beheld. First, we have the gingerbread man:
Do you see it? His left eye has been gouged out. And when I go on to my second pop-tart, we find out how...
The evil undead snowman(look at his face carefully and you will see how closely it resembles that of a skull) has removed the gingerbread man's eye from its socket with the handle of his broom. And do you see the decapitated head he's holding under his left arm?
Absolutely atrocious.
You Should Be an Artist
You are incredibly creative, spontaneous, and unique.
No one can guess what you're going to do next, but it's usually something amazing.
You can't deal with routine, rules, or structure. You're easily bored.
As long as you are able to innovate and break the rules, you are extremely successful.
You do best when you:
- Can work by yourself
- Can express your personality in your work
You would also be a good journalist or actor.
The Spinning Dancer.
Okay, I've been seeing a lot of people post asking "Which way is she really spinning." So I decided to post and take some screen shots... retentive, I know, but maybe this will clear some things up:
Examine both of the above shots very carefully, and you will be able to see that they are of neither her left, nor her right side. The image was designed "just so". It is, in fact, both.
And on to the front and back shots. Again, you will see that it is neither her back nor her front, but both. : )
Update: Further examination leads me to believe that she is not spinning at all, but instead "morfing", for lack of a better term. If so, then as the image is morfing, the brain registers it as "spinning". From there either the left or right side takes over, and causes it to spin either counter-clockwise or clockwise. :)
